Feeding Tube Diet? Leading Bariatric surgeon sends up warning

The creepiest new fad to lose weight debuted in Florida, and is apparently a trend that was spawned in Europe.

For just $1,500, Florida's own Dr. Oliver Di Pietro will insert a feeding tube into your stomach through your nostril and count his money as you're slowly fed 800 calories a day for ten days. Dr. Oliver says that most patients drop up to 20 pounds of fat.
Dr. Oliver's patients have to keep the feeding tube in for the full 10 days and they carry around their liquid food in a tote bag. Side effects include constipation, dizziness, bad breath and revealing your craziness to friends, coworkers and family.

Dr. Oliver tells The New York Times that most of his patients are brides hoping to lose some weight to fit into their wedding dresses. This 800 calorie concoction is a mixture of fat, water and protein with zero carbs in it.
Leading Los Angeles based bariatric surgeon Dr. Carson Liu MD, FACS, FASMBS - a frequent expert contributor to Monsters and Critics - isn't having it and spoke to us today regarding this alarming trend.
"We usually use feeding tubes for critically ill patients who can't eat such as people with strokes or on the ventilator who need assistance with their breathing," says Dr. Carson D. Liu.
"So why not just drink a protein meal replacement and drink a soluble fiber drink...unless their is something really wrong with the Bride's psychological makeup!" says Dr. Liu, who offered a replacement for the desperate to lose weight quick crowd: "Taking 5-6 meal replacement shakes throughout the day will cause a drastic weight loss as long as the shakes are quality shakes with 15 or more grams of protein and minimal carbohydrates. This will take the hunger away."
"The feeding tube has a small risk of causing aspiration, inhaling a feria into your lungs not to mention that you have to go into hiding with a tube coming out of your nose for 10 days!" added Dr. Liu. "Let's get serious. Why not just get the wedding dress altered? Everyone will still think the Bride is beautiful."
